Applying for a new job can be exciting. The idea of a new challenge, a career change or landing something in which you can fully utilize your talents is encouraging. However, for many the idea of a job interview is stressful and brings forth fear, worry and even heightened anxiety and panic attacks. But why is that exactly? Why the stress, fear and worry?

YOU’RE UNIQUE JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE

We are all unique and all have different backgrounds and circumstances, so it would be impossible for me to pinpoint exactly why everyone who reads this post is experiencing stress, fear or worry associated with a job interview. It may be anything from a bad hair day and now you don’t feel as confident to wondering how the interviewer him/herself will be. Will the interviewer be to the point and rigid or will he/she be more personable and friendly? You may be asking yourself questions such as: “will I know the “right” answer to his or her questions?”, “Do I truly have the skill set for this job?”.

STOP THINKING ABOUT YOURSELF, NO REALLY, STOP!

Regardless of what reasons you have for feeling stressed, worried or having anxiety it really boils down to one and one thing only, and that is how you think. Remember that how you think shapes your beliefs and your beliefs shape your actions which shape your habits which in turn shapes your life. And in the case of your job interview stop thinking about yourself!

HERE’S THE SECRET TO ELIMINATING INTERVIEW ANXIETY

What is the secret to no longer worrying about your job interview or having fear of whether things will go right or wrong? It is simple. Stop thinking about why YOU want the job and start focusing on how YOU can help the organization reach its goals.

When you shift your way of thinking from why you want the job (good money, great hours….) to how you can help the employer reach its goals ( great customer service, increased sales, creative input) everything changes! You literally put yourself into a new level of awareness and vibration that you can feel immediately. There is no more stress, no more worry, and anxiety is non existent. Instead of looking for a job and wondering if they will hire you, you are now there to get to know their organization and help them reach their corporate goals by utilizing your skill set. You’re looking to see if there is a match and if you can create a win/win situation.

BUT WHAT IF I JUST NEED THE MONEY

If you apply somewhere just because you need the extra money it’ll be a short term gain and long term pain. You will eventually not be motivated to continue going into work and your employer will soon realize this and let you go. The process will repeat itself until you change the way you think about money and how and why it is earned.

If you do need to get a job because you do need the extra money than focus on what you bring to the organization, how can you help your employer reach their goals? Can you help them do something better? What creative ideas do you have that could improve their business?

NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU UNTIL YOU SHOW HOW MUCH YOU CARE ABOUT THEM.

So, forget about the money, the great hours or what ever other perks you are seeking to gain and start focusing on the employer and how you can help them.

If you continue going into interviews with the idea of what YOU want and don’t focus on what THEY want and how you can help them get there… you’ll forever experience the stress, worry, and anxiety of wondering if you’ll be good enough or if you’ll say the right thing. After all no one cares about you until you show them how much you care about them first.
